Thadoss and Jade of Dune teamed up with Virgill/Alcatraz to release a giant of a demo at last weekend's Sillyventure party.
For many, this 16 Mhz / 14 MB Falcon demo was the climax of the party and the demo is a milestone in Atari Falcon demo history without any doubt. Impressive tech and graphic design and foremost thrilling and yet unseen DSP effects (falling leaves anyone?), great scenery and transitions.
The demo optionally conveys one or several emotional messages (depends on yourself), on the edge between thoughfulness and sadness at times, all perfectly transported by Virgill's intensive soundtrack.
Obviously an incredible amount of work went into making this. Thank you so much guys, it means a lot!
More SV coverage might follow here later on.

060 not compatible ๐
It doesn't need to be!
Dune have carried off the gravitas of a Black Lotus demo, possibly even more so, on a standard Falcon 030.
Quoting Marss:
So what?
btw I see "DLM" in 5:16
Should be DML?
Tried it on 060 at 75 Mhz and 20 Mhz bus.
I got as far as the start of the particle Raven screen. That stopped but the music played on.
Out of additional interest. Did not start at all (hung on initialising?) On Centurbo 2.
Hope to get it running in full at some time. Atm I can watch till falling leaves. Then nothing, but the music happens.
My Falcon is standard, with just 14MB and FPU. Maybe it is just free harddrive space. Have 5MB left there atm. Try to free up some more MB this evening.
I've pushed the DSP/68030 timings to their maximum to speed up the demo.
So, if you use modified falcons (with a non 1:2 ratio between DSP and 68030), it may finish with freezes.

the animated raven stuff I particularly liked. also the lava landscape.
also to mention the music which set a perfect mood. a very neat way to finish the demo with a reminder of the effects.
my congratulations to Thadoss, Jade, Virgill and everyone involved. Thadoss is certainly one of my favourite coders on Falcon.
I would agree Chris
It goes without saying that I find the DSP wizardry at display super impressive. It takes so much dedication to execute.
I love it!
Had another review of the problem. Seems like the problem has to do something with the FPU. If I set Hatari to "16 MHz Falcon without FPU" it stops at the same position, just before the "fps" part.
Your demo from 2k16 sv is stopping there when the shark should dive depper, as on my Falcon. Enabling the FPU in Hatari and both demos are running fine.
If in both demos there is used FPU for the first time, then maybe my FPU might the problem.
My own programms using FPU (e.g. my Mandelbrot coded with PurePascal in the 90s) are running fine. Kronos runs it's FPU tests, too.
Maybe the whole bus in my Falcon is not 100% timed correct. Not sure if there is a clock patch build in.
To be noticed : the demo is now "Top of the month" under pouet.net.

A Falcon demo top of the month is not that current.
That's good for our beloved bird.

Falcon30 cost ยฑ2000โฌ on the second hand market... OK, that is a rare machine, but really not worth this price ! (ZeST HW is just about 110โฌ).
Great demo, indeed, even if a bit of sadness resonates from it.
A dystopic world is not the only option, hopefully
Thanks DUNE for this artwork (kudos to Laurent, Virgill and Jade)
Be strong, be smart, be Atari !
I guess he was showing the latest evolution of ZeST and the road map came up in discussion.
I'd be interested in a cheap Falcon, even a spare STE. Can't have too many Falcons!
He's generously awarded a thumb up, good for him there. But 'slow code', seriously?
I'd like to see him come forth, with example code, as to how the Falcon DSP could be done better.
But we all know that won't happen.
