The appreciated Dresden, Germany based RCD club held another Retro party last Saturday. Similar to the previous edition it was a very open minded and cosy event with all kinds of oldschool interested people and lots of gaming for young and old visitors. My estimate is 40-50 visitors over the day.

The massive Amiga corner was intimidating, being confronted with a little A1200 fleet and particularly a mortifying lineup of original game boxes presenting the games I always wished for the Atari, but that were only converted to Amiga or available on PC. The mid nineties were rough ground for Atari kids! Feel free to share your memories on that issue in the comments.

Then again, there was a proper shrine for the the most elegant device in the room, a Mega STE in full glory with a twin monitor setup, so I won't complain too loudly.

Does RCD have their own exhibition hardware, like the Retro Computer Museum in Leicester, or is it what people choose to bring with them to show off on the day?

It looks like people took a lot of time and effort in creating these showcases of retro computing excellence.

Usually, it is like a room with permanent setups provided by members, so in a way it's an externalized hobby room. For the party day some specialities have been arranged and put on display on top of that.

The setup at RCM is donated hardware that has been set up to be able to use, by the museum staff/volunteers.

They are open weekends to the general public. I tend to go to the 'Legendary Gatherings' which is booked ahead.

I don't think anyone brings in extra hardware on the day itself.

I'm thinking of bringing in a Satandisk or Ultrasatan to try with their ST. A lot of the other hardware has a multi cartridge menu to select from. The ST is running off the contents of someone's old donated floppy box, with a fifty percent dud rate.

If so, better double check that its not an STE with DMA-bug before inserting your media.
Also this sounds like a good use case for an ASCI2STM or Sidecartridge device.

Oh I would definitely do that first.

I wouldn't use one of my main SD cards in any case. I've got a few low capacity almost disposable 'stunt' cards for risky ventures like this.

Profiler and HD driver on floppy disk. Dammit, I'm starting to plan this out!
