Atariscne.org

We are happy to welcome you to Atariscne.org, a portal for Atariscene related news. The page goes online officially on 15th of March 2025. As a little teaser we celebrate the opening with a little cracktro, released at Buxton Bytes Party 2025 in UK today.

For the interested, let us sketch the idea behind the page:

Background

As you probably realized the historic and beloved webpage DHS.nu went into sleep mode since a few years for various reasons. Over are the times, when one would visit the Dead Hackers Society pages more often than brush your teeth. Along with the decline of DHS.nu, Atariscene news sources are very splintered these days and it is difficult to stay up to date and keep an overview. At the same time interesting things happen but have no outreach, for example in forums, chat or facebook groups. Sometimes it is a pity to observe how comprehensive articles are just overlooked while much of the major news content available is rather superficial or of a copy-paste character.

Idea and Motivation

We want to build an independent platform for the Atari scene. Initial focus is on things happening (news). We have no aspiration for completeness, but would like to stay open for all Atari platforms with all kinds of scene related content. With Atariscne.org we would like to provide curated news, quality content with depth and a human touch, similar to diskmags earlier on. As a side effect this possibly provides motivating feedback for active Atari people.

Workflow and content

As we use a content management system, several authors can work independently on the page. This decentralized approach is a huge step forward as we can share the work, responsibility and fun more easily.

Even though the page started officially in March 2025, there are already a lot of articles online covering the happenings straight from the beginning of 2025. During those months luckily some experienced and well-known authors of Maggie and Alive Mag fame joint the team, so that we now also have diskmag competency on board.

We hope you like the ideas of this manifest. And even more so, we would love to see you getting involved in one way or another. Feel invited to join us to keep this project running by This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., be it

  • news articles and rumours
  • announcements
  • reports (parties, events)
  • reviews (demos, games, tools)
  • interviews
  • retrospection
  • or any matter you consider interesting for the Atariscene.

We will see how things evolve! As a common denominator, we would like to keep the content 1) kind and objective, 2) legal and respectful regarding privacy and 3) non-commercial.

A little grain of salt

At the same time this is the farewell to the activities of the DHS.nu website. This page has a special place in many Atari sceners hearts. It has served as the starting point for Atariscene Internet experience straight since the mid-90s and provided scene news and rumours for more than 30 years.

Even long time before social media, DHS.nu with its legendary Bulletin Board (forum) was the central hub of the scene and a safe base to count on since teenage years. And still today, it is a source of useful information and a starting point for Atariscene matters. However maintaining the pages became mostly a one-man-show in the end. The famous BBS went in sleep-mode due to various reasons and in technical terms the page reached the end of it's lifecycle after 15 years of service.

Hurray and although it's hardly possible to thank you enough for the maintenance since 1994:
Thank you Dead Hackers Society!

On the bright side, DHS.nu will stay online in a read-only state. So, no information will be lost. In contrary! Evil/DHS even took the effort and implemented all the past 1.700 (!) news articles from the historic page generations into the recent one. This means dhs.nu now features an online archive of the complete timeline since 1994! Also useful resources such as the various tools and download pages (and foremost DHS cooking!😋) will remain online.

Contributions welcome

We hope with this new approach and distributed authorship Atariscne.org will be able to breath in some fresh air into the scene and help to stay connected and independent from large companies and social media at the same time.

However, please note that we will not fulfill everyones wishes. So before you have demands and expectations, please consider contributing. We want to take it easy! 😃

Great initiative. Perhaps an obvious (and easier to say than do) suggestion: over the time it would be great o add a form to post the news directly. They can be still curated/preselected but sending stuff over email, attaching pictures, links and whatnot and then create a new article from it from scratch sounds like a tedious job for both parties.

Yes, good idea. Indeed we are starting rather simple and then see how it works. Maybe we will find some more adequate solution. Let me come back to you about in private. I have an idea... :)

Thank you so so much for this initiative! As someone who deliberately lives outside of corporate-controlled gated communities like Facebook or Discord, atariscne.org opens a new world to me. The mix and playfulness of topics are a delight. Cheers, Norman
